The Beginning

"Altered Ego Salon has evolved and re-invented itself many times. It all started in 1983 when my parents, Bill and Sylvia Hensley opened 'Sylvia’s Hair Corral', located on McClintock and Baseline in the Smitty’s Shopping Center. They raised 5 daughters and ran the local beauty salon there until they announced that they would be relocating and moving it to its second location on McClintock and Southern. When I graduated from the Colorado Institute of Art with my degree in Visual Communications. I explored the Graphic Design Industry while working part time in salons. Turns out I did not like working on computers, I needed to work with people. Shortly there after, I made the big decision to leave the art community and dive into my true passion working in the salon industry. Hair was my new canvas. I joined my mom in rebranding and elevating her salon to the next level. We integrated a training program, started new systems and brought on new services...."

The Start of Altered Ego

"In 2002, I began my journey as the next generation and owner of Altered Ego Salon& Spa moving it to Mill Town Center where we are today. In the past 2 decades we have grown and evolved the salon company into where we are today. We have run our salon company with the Summit Salon Business concepts since 2011. In this time, Chad Bare, my husband and I have opened a few other facets to the salon. The Solo Café in 2007 was our second venture. In 2010, we launched Lil Ego’s, our in-salon daycare. In 2013, we transformed the Solo Café into the first Hybrid Coffee Shop/ Barbershop until 2018, when Chad and I decided that it was time to consolidate and hang up the “Serial Entrepreneur” hat for a bit. We felt that we needed to focus on salon education to really grow our salon and team...."

Today

"Fast forward to now, we are blessed to have survived a worldwide pandemic and see the future as unwritten, filled with vision and opportunity. I could fill pages with the stories and new ideas of what is next. We would like to invite you to be a part of our story and build a future with us at this little Tempe Gem called Altered Ego Salon. We look forward to meeting you. "
